Comments:

League position: 4th Chelsea failed to score in consecutive Premier League home games for the first time since November 2012. This was also the first time that a team managed by Antonio Conte failed to score in consecutive top division home games. The Blues had now dropped eight points in four Premier League home games so far in 2017-18; two more than in the whole of the title-winning 2016-17 season. They had now drawn only one of their last 20 games in the Premier League (won 15). Chelsea manager Antonio Conte said: "When you play against the type of team who likes to have possession, you have to consider two tactical aspects. You go very high, press and play with great intensity for the whole game, or you must be disciplined to close the space and exploit space in behind their defenders. I think we have to look at ourselves and try to put everything into every game. We did that today. Damage or no damage, we have to go game by game, do our best and then we’ll see at the end of the season how we finish the league."

League position: 1st Manchester City equalled their club record of five consecutive away wins in the top division (also September 1912 and September 2015). City were now unbeaten in their last 15 Premier League games since losing at Chelsea on 5 April 2017 (won 12). They had now kept clean sheets in four consecutive Premier League games for the first time since September 2015. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said: "There are no words to describe what Chelsea are and what they did last season. It is important to win and especially with the way we played. In the first-half we didn’t find the right position but in the second we were better. A big congratulations for the victory. We had control and in the second-half we adjusted our possession and the way we attacked. Chelsea could not play and had to do long balls.”
