Comments:

This was Chelsea’s tenth appearance in a League Cup Final (won five). . The Blues had now become the first team to lose six consecutive major cup Finals in England; including three versus Liverpool. . They had now failed to score for the first time in their last six games in all competitions but failed to keep a clean sheet in the same run of games.

Comments:

Liverpool made their 14th appearance in a League Cup Final and had now lifted the trophy for a record tenth time; two more than any other team. . Only two of their ten League Cup Finals victories had now been achieved without extra time being played (against Bolton Wanderers in 1995 and Manchester United in 2003). . Virgil van Dijk's goal was the latest League Cup Final winner since Brian Little's for Aston Villa against Everton in 1977 (119th minute). . Three teenagers played for the Reds during this game (Jayden Danns [18], Bobby Clark [19] and James McConnell [19]; the most to appear in a team in a League Cup Final since four for Arsenal against Chelsea in 2007 (Theo Walcott, Cesc Fabregas, Denilson and Armand Traoré). . Virgil van Dijk scored in the 60th minute but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review due to an offside decision.
