Comments:

Prior to this result, Chelsea had only lost two of their last 34 FA Cup matches, winning 26 and six draws, though one of the draws led to elimination on penalties by Everton in 2011. Excluding penalty shoot-outs, they were unbeaten in their last 27 FA Cup ties at Stamford Bridge. They conceded four goals to a third tier team for the first time since 29 January 1958 when they lost 4-1 to Darlington in a 4th round replay at Feethams. The last time they conceded four goals in the FA Cup against a team from a lower division was in the 3rd round on 6 January 1962 in a 4-3 defeat at Liverpool. 1961-62 was the Reds' last season outside of the top flight. The previous time Chelsea lost at home in the FA Cup against a third tier or lower team was on 4 February 1985, when they lost 3-2 against Millwall in the 4th round. Chelsea lost at home after leading by two or more goals for the first time since losing 3-2 in October 1999 to Arsenal in the Premier League. They had won all ten of their home games in the Premier League so far this season and this was only the second time they had conceded more than once at home in 2014-15. With Manchester City losing at home to Middlesbrough, the last time the current top two teams in the top-flight exited the FA Cup on the same day was on 6 January 1951 (coincidentally, Middlesbrough at Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur at Huddersfield Town).

Comments:

League One Bradford City had lost on all of their last 12 previous visits to Chelsea. Prior to this match, City last beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 19 October 1912 with a 3-0 scoreline. They had beaten Chelsea once in all competions since 1926. The Bantams became the first away team to score four goals against a team managed by current Blues boss Jose Mourinho. This was only the third time that a third tier team had scored four or more goals in a FA Cup at a club in the top division (Southampton won 5-1 at Manchester City on 9 January 1960 and Milton Keynes Dons won 4-2 at Queens Park Rangers on 26 January 2013). Bradford City have now scored 17 goals in five FA Cup games in this season. City last scored four goals against a top flight team in the FA Cup in a 4-2 win against Oxford United at Valley Parade in the 4th round on 30 January 1988. Gary Liddle was booked in the second minute of added time in the first half. Stephen Darby was booked in the first minute of added time in the second half. Mark Yeates scored in the third minute of added time in the second half.
