This was Yeovil Town's first visit to the Abbey Stadium for a league game since 16 April 1970. The Glovers won 2-1 in what was Cambridge United's last season in the Southern League. They beat Town to the 1969/70 championship title by one point, and replaced Bradford Park Avenue in the Football League.
