Comments:

With this win, League One Bradford City reached the Quarter-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 1976. This was City's highest home attendance since 26,244 witnessed their FA Cup 5th round tie with Burnley on 20 February 1960. Their last win against Sunderland at their Valley Parade home was on 2 January 1989 in League Division Two. Ex-Sunderland striker Jon Stead has scored in every round of the FA Cup this season and now scored five goals in his last six games in the FA Cup. He scored two goals in 40 appearances during his two seasons with the Black Cats. Jon Stead's goal was the Bantams' 19th in six FA Cup matches this season.

Comments:

This was the third time in five seasons that Premier League Sunderland had been knocked out of the FA Cup by lower division opposition. It was their second defeat in their last ten FA Cup games against teams from a lower division. Before today, they had won nine, lost one and conceded two goals in their last 12 meetings with Bradford City in all competitions.
