Comments:

League position: 19th AFC Bournemouth avoided losing their opening five league games for the third time in their history (previously in 1983 and 1994). Jermain Defoe had now scored in 17 different seasons in the Premier League. Only three players had scored in more (Frank Lampard [18], Paul Scholes [19] and Ryan Giggs [21]). Drew Surman scored in his 400th career appearance and 100th Premier League appearance. AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe said: "A lot of emotions, relief is probably the biggest one. We have had a tough run of fixtures and today was really important. They played deep, they were compact and we knew it would be difficult. The two goals have given everyone a confidence lift."

Comments:

League position: 14th Brighton and Hove Albion failed in their attempt to win consecutive top division games for the first time since September 1982 (versus Arsenal and Sunderland in League Division One). The Seagulls had now won one of their last eight league games. Albion had now scored two goals in their last five away league games. Brighton and Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton said: "Incredibly disappointed. They have a lot of quality and move the ball well, but we handled it well for a lot of the game. It was two poor goals we conceded that we never looked like conceding before then."
