The 2023-24 Premier League was the 32nd season in the competition's history.
With their sixth title in the last seven seasons, Manchester City won an eighth Premier League title as they became England's league champions for the tenth time. Notably, they became the first-ever team to win four consecutive league titles in the 125-season history of the top division in England.
The season ran from 11 August 2023 to 19 May 2024, and for the third time included a winter break that was spread over the period from 2 to 30 January 2024.
The total attendance at the 380 games was 14,674,624: an average of 38,617 (a 4.10% decrease on 2022-23).
A new record total of 1,246 goals were scored. The previous record was 1,222 in 1992-93 which was a 462-game season.
This was the fifth season that the Premier League had featured the use of video assistant referees (VAR).
To discourage time-wasting and to improve the accuracy of time added on, a new stoppage time rule was implemented.
This was the second season that teams were allowed to make five substitutions in a game. Additional substitutions could be made under the concussion protocol.
For the second consecutive season, Arsenal were again the main threat to City's title triumph after Liverpool's challenge faltered. Reds manager Jürgen Klopp announced in January that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season.
Aston Villa finished in fourth position and qualified for the UEFA Champions League, so returning to Europe's top club competition for the first time since 1983.
Manchester United final position of eighth was their lowest-ever in the Premier League but qualified for the UEFA Europa League after winning the FA Cup Final. They were joined by Tottenham Hotspur who finished fifth.
United's FA Cup Final success meant that Chelsea would be entered in to the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Due to breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs), two team were deducted points.
In November, Everton were deducted ten points before being reduced to six points on appeal. A further two-point deduction was announced in April (so eight points in total).
In March, Nottingham Forest were deducted four points. Their appeal was rejected on 7 May. They avoided relegation with a new record low total of 32 points.
For the second time in the competition's history (previously in 1997-98), all three of the newly promoted clubs were relegated.
Sheffield United created a new record by conceding 104 goals in a Premier League season; previously 100 by Swindon Town in 1993-94 (42 games).
Burnley - the previous season's League Championship champions - equalled their club record of losing 24 games in a season in the top division.
Only nine years after playing in the National League, Luton Town became the 51st team to play in the Premier League. The Hatters made a valiant attempt to avoid the drop and took their fight to the final day of the season.
In coming within a FA Cup Final defeat to guiding a team to complete a league and cup double in consecutive seasons for the first time, Manchester City's Pep Guardiola was named League Managers' Association Manager of the Year for a fourth time and the Premier League's Manager of the Season for a fifth time.
City's Phil Foden was voted the Premier League's Player of the Season and the Football Writers' Association's Footballer of the Year. Cole Palmer of Chelsea was named the Premier League's Young Player of the Season.
Erling Haaland became the first player to win the Golden Boot award in consecutive seasons since Mohamed Salah in 2019, while Alejandro Garnacho won the Premier League's Goal of the Season award (for Manchester United versus Everton on 26 November 2023).
