The Confederations Cup in 2003 will be remembered for tragic reasons. During Cameroon's semi final against Colombia, Marc-Vivien Foé collapsed and died. It is suspected that Foé may have suffered from a hereditary heart disorder.
On the field France were keen to improve on their performance at the previous World Cup where they did not score a single game.
'Les bleus' progressed to the final and came up against Cameroon. Despite both teams stating that the final should not be played in light of Foe's death, the match took place. Thierry Henry scored the golden goal which clinched France's second straight Confederations Cup.
