CONCACAF Gold Cup, 2009

In 2009, the tournament was held at 13 different US stadiums, the most ever used for a Gold Cup tournament.

The competition featured two debutants in Nicaragua and Grenada. Once again there were no participating guest nations. Canada, USA and Mexico each topped their respective groups to progress to the quarterfinal round.

In the quarter finals there were convincing victories for Costa Rica and Mexico whilst Canada went out to Honduras and USA squeezed past Panama.

Once again, it was USA and Mexico who progressed to the final. It was the fourth time that the two would contest the Gold Cup final.

In a humiliating defeat on home soil, USA were thrashed 5 - 0.

All five goals were scored in the second half as the USA defence capitulated and Mexico were crowned Gold Cup champions for a record fifth time.
