CONCACAF Gold Cup, 2003

As in 1993, the Gold Cup was hosted by both USA and Mexico. Of the twelve competing nations, two were invitees - Brazil and Colombia.

The group stages failed to produce many surprises as all the pre-tournament favourites progressed.

At the quarter final stage USA thrashed Jamaica 5 - 0 as Landon Donavon scored four goals. These were his only goals of the tournament and enough to make him joint top scorer. There were also comfortable wins for Brazil, Costa Rica and Mexico.

Despite leading until the 89th minutes, USA were knocked out in the semis by Brazil. Kaka equalised to force extra time then Diego scored the winner during extra time from the spot.

The Brazilians met Mexico, who had come through a semi against Costa Rica, in the final. After a goalless 90 minutes an Osorno extra time winner sealed Mexico's fourth Gold Cup and first since 1998.
