CONCACAF Gold Cup, 2002

USA hosted the Gold Cup again in 2002. The group stage was composed of twelve nations, two of which were invitees - North Korea and Ecuador. In group D all three sides finished on three points after each winning a match 2 - 0. As there was nothing to separate the sides, a coin toss decided that Haiti and Canada would progress whilst Ecuador would miss out.

There was a shock in the quarter finals as South Korea knocked out Mexico on penalties. Martinique came close to an upset but lost on penalties to holders Canada.

Canada's luck did however run out at the quarter final stage when they met USA. The Americans went through on penalties. The hosts met Costa Rica in the final as they sealed their second Gold Cup title. Wolff and Agoos scored the crucial goals in a 2 - 0 victory.
