CONCACAF Gold Cup, 2000

The competition was hosted by USA in three cities - Los Angeles, San Diego and Miami. For the first time as many as twelve teams took part in the tournament. Peru, Colombia and the Republic of Korea were each invited from outside confederations. The groups stages was composed of four groups of three with the top two from each qualifying for the quarter finals..

Both previous Gold Cup champions - USA and Mexico - were knocked out in the quarter finals. USA , lost on penalties to Colombia as they managed to convert only one of five spot kicks. Mexico went out after a 2 - 1 defeat against Canada.

Colombia and Canada progressed to the final. Canada sealed the win to claim their first Gold Cup title..
