On this day in football history

1984 The FA agreed to allow sponsor's names to appear on player's shirts for the forthcoming FA Cup Final.
1986 Aberdeen went out of the European Cup, having creditably reached the quarter-final stage, when they played out a goalless draw against IFK Gothenburg in Sweden. Gothenburg had drawn 2-2 at Pittodrie and therefore progressed to the semi-finals on the away goal rule.
1995 Notts County lifted the Anglo-Italian Cup after beating Ascoli 2-1 at Wembley. Agana and White scored for County while Ascoli's goal came from Mirabelli.
