On this day in football history

1887 The Scottish Football Association decreed that all their member clubs should cease participation in the FA Cup. Queens Park had reached the Final twice and Rangers had reached the semi-final stage. The Scottish Cup was first played for in 1874; two years after the introduction of its' English equivalent.
1930 England played Germany for the first time and drew 3-3 in Berlin. Bradford(2) and Jack scored for England while the German's goals came via a hat trick by R. Hoffman. England's left-half Billy Marsden was so badly injured during the match that he was forced to give up the game.
1954 After two drawn matches Derry won the Irish Cup by beating Glentoran 1-0. Derry's inside-right Jimmy Delaney thus completed a unique treble of Cup winners medals; the Scottish with Celtic in 1937, the FA with Manchester United in 1948 and the Irish with Derry in 1954.
1962 The European Cup Winners Cup Final ends in a 1-1 draw between Atletico Madrid and Fiorentina.
1978 Liverpool secure the European Cup, their second in succession by beating Bruges 1-0 at Wembley with Kenny Dalglish scoring the winner.
1980 Trevor Brooking scores an unlikely headed winner as West Ham beat Arsenal 1-0 in the FA Cup Final.
1987 Napoli draw 1-1 with Fiorentina to secure their first ever Scudeto. Led by the mecurial Diego Maradona the team looked set to dominate Italian football for years to come.
1995 Arsenal lose the Cup Winners Cup Final 1-0 to Real Zaragoza with a late winner from ex-Spurs player Nayim. "Nayim from the half-way line" springs up as a new football song.
1996 After Glen Hoddle departs to manage England, Chelsea appoint Ruud Gullit as player coach.
