On this day in football history

1921 Only 13 spectators paid to see the Second Division match between Stockport County and Leicester City. The match was played at Old Trafford, Manchester, because Stockport's ground was under suspension at the time.
1927 Charles Wilson became the first player to have played in Championship winning sides in all three divisions when Stoke City won the Third Division North title. He had previouly won Championships with Tottenham Hotspur (Division Two 1919-20) and Huddersfield Town (Division One 1923-24 and 1924-25).
1950 Neil Franklin, Stoke City and England centre-half, flew to Bogota, Colombia, to sign for Sante Fe. His colleague George Mountford went with him. Both went without warning and, because Colombia was outside the jurisdiction of F.I.FA at the time, no transfer fee was involved. A number of British professionals had been made lucrative offers to sign for either Sante Fe or their Bogota neighbours Millonarios but found reality to be somewhat different from the promises made. Franklin was back in England by July and received a 16 month suspension although Mountford played out his contract. Roy Paul (Swansea Town) and Jack Hedley (Everton) returned without signing but Billy Higgins (Everton) and Bobby Flavell (Hearts) both completed their contracts with Millonarios as did Charlie Mitten (Manchester United) with Sante Fe. All eventually returned to England and served various periods of suspension before joining other clubs. Ex player Jock Dodds who acted as an agent for the Colombian clubs in Britain was suspended from the Football League for life.
1966 Luton Town played Tony Read in goal in their Fourth Division game with Stockport County at Kenilworth Road. Although he was their reserve 'keeper and was selected on merit he had played at inside-right in the League side for most of the season and had scored 12 goals.
1988 Aiden Newhouse (15 years, 350 days) became Chester City's youngest player when he took the field against Bury.
