Ozgul Tekin started his career with Second Division Iskenderunspor, signing for Karabukspor before moving up to Turkey's top grade with Ankaragucu in 1999. He struggled to make any impression in his first two seasons with the Ankara club, but has grasped the goalie's gloves with both hands in 2001-02 after Roberto da Silva was dropped. He soon became recognized as one of the top keepers in Turkey and earned his first call-up to the national squad for the friendly with Chile in April 2002.
