Boland had the misfortune to suffer a fractured fibula playing for Cardiff City at Barnet at the end of August 2000 and it was not until early December that he returned to first-team action.
Once fully fit, he showed his true value with some outstanding displays and played an important role for the Bluebirds' successful promotion campaign.
He is a quality midfield player who works hard and shows good movement and passing ability.
Boland retired in October 2009 due to a knee injury.
