Stewart enjoyed an incredible season at Ipswich last term. After a shaky start that saw him relegated to the subs' bench against Aston Villa he promptly came on to score and never looked back. The rest of the football world really started to take him seriously when he scored in seven successive games between 26 December and 20 January, which took him to the top of the Premiership scoring charts. One of his highlights was his hat-trick at the Dell against Southampton in a 3-0 win. The three goals displayed his full repertoire - a tap in, a header and a cheekily chipped in penalty. He was in contention for the Golden Boot for being the Premiership's leading scorer right up to the last game of the season, made the short-list of six for the PFA's 'Player of the Season' and was voted 'Player of the Year' by the Ipswich supporters. However there is more to his game than scoring goals and he was always involved in the thick of the action, as often as not creating chances for his colleagues. At Middlesbrough it was his cross that enabled Alun Armstrong to notch the winning goal. He also established himself as the club's penalty taker during the course of the season.
