Willem Korsten

Despite another injury-dogged season at Tottenham last term Willem did well when called upon and bagged three goals late on. He had a particularly good game in the final match against champions Manchester United, scoring with two fine 20-yard efforts as Spurs went on to win 3-1. An attacking left-sided midfield player who can also feature as a striker, his towering frame makes him a little cumbersome in the air but his power and strength on the ground are his greatest assets. Having finished on a high he would have obviously been hoping to resume in similar vein at the start of the 2001-02 campaign. However the hip problem which had plagued him for so long struck again and he was forced to retire from the game on medical advice in October 2001.
