This ever-consistent Rochdale defender was mostly employed at right back in 2001-02 although he occasionally played as a third centre back.
His partnership with Lee Todd became arguably the best full-back pairing in the Third Division and his influence on the team was immense. It was no coincidence that Dale's worst two defeats of the season came after he was carried off in the home game with Shrewsbury Town and then missed the next match through injury. He even managed two goals.
Wayne extended his Rochdale contract to June 2005 in July 2004.
