A former England youth international, having finally shaken off the groin problem that had dogged him for so long, Wayne eventually won his place back in Grimsby Town's line-up in November 2000.
He gradually returned to his old form but was then sidelined by a knee injury in the New Year and it was not until the final day of the season that he made a return to the squad.
When fully fit he is a creative midfield player able to deliver a telling pass.
