Very much a favourite of the Tranmere Rovers faithful for his all-action displays, Wayne found it difficult to hit his best form in a struggling side in 2000-01 and when the goals dried up he spent some time in the reserve team before resuming his place in the attack later on.
Nevertheless, he still finished as the club's joint-second-top scorer with six goals.
A traditional, old-fashioned centre forward he dominates in the air, leads the line well and creates chances with his bustling, awkward style.
Following his release by Tranmere Rovers, Wayne joined Sheffield United on a one-year contract in July 2002 which was extended up to June 2005 in December 2003.
He joined Chesterfield in June 2004 in a two-year deal that was extended to June 2007 in March 2006.
