A versatile member of the defence he began his career as a right back at Znamya Truda in 1991 and played for Iskra Smolensk, Kristal Smolensk and Baltika before signing for Torpedo Moscow in 1999. It was here he converted to central defence and forced his way into the international reckoning making his debut in September 2001. He moved to CSKA Moscow in 2002 where he has not really settled. He will be used here because of his versatility but only from the bench.
