The Norwegian international looked set to be Liverpool's right back for a generation but a recurring hamstring injury curtailed his 1999-2000 campaign and again hampered him in 2000-01. He made a comeback in September as substitute at West Ham and started the games at home to Rapid Bucharest in the UEFA Cup and at Derby. However he was stretchered off after only five minutes of the game at Pride Park with the same hamstring problem and the date of his return to full fitness was continually put back until the season ran out. However even when he regains fitness he will find it difficult to force his way back into a Liverpool back four that now seems firmly established.
