Sinclair was the third player to be allocated the No. 4 shirt in England's squad for the 2002 World Cup finals.
He originally travelled to South Korea on standby for the injured Kieron Dyer.
Kieron's anticipated recovery saw Sinclair return home but he immediately flew back to the Far East to replace Danny Murphy following the Liverpool midfielder's training ground injury.
His route to play on the game's greatest stage began at Blackpool, signing pro forms for the Tangerines in 1990.
He joined Queens Park Rangers for £750,000 in 1993 before signing for their London rivals West Ham United in 1998 for £2.3million.
His international debut came in November in the 1-1 draw with Sweden at Old Trafford.
Quick and skilful but aware of his defensive responsibilities, Sinclair can play on either side of midfield.
Sinclair joined Manchester City in July 2003 for £2.5million in a four-year deal.
