Shields continued to develop at a steady rate with Peterborough United in 2000-01 and now finally appears to have made a breakthrough to a regular place in the first team.
A tenacious midfield dynamo who is very strong in the tackle, he produced some effective perform-ances and is a fine prospect. His talents were recognised by members of the Posh supporters' club who voted him 'Young Player of the Year'.
