Rougier joined Reading for a substantial fee shortly before the start of the 2000-01 season and although he took a little while to settle in he soon endeared himself to the club's supporters when he scored twice in the 4-3 win over Oxford. Thereafter he was generally used on the left-hand side of midfield where he was able to open up defences with his pace and trickery. A committed Christian, he continued to assist Trinidad & Tobago in their World Cup qualifying campaign, winning a further six caps in the process. He originally joined Raith Rovers from Trinity Prospect in Trinidad.
Rougier joined Brentford in August 2003 on a three-month contract that was subsequently extended to the end of the 2003-04 season. He moved on to Bristol City in March 2004 in a short-term deal.
