Butler was one of the most consistent performers for West Bromwich Albion in 2000-01 when he was a near ever-present.
A determined, hard-working and resilient central defender, he always tried his hardest whether at home or away and never shirked a challenge.
He netted his first goal for the Baggies with a header in the local 'derby' defeat away to Birmingham City.
Following a successful loan spell, Butler joined Bristol City on a two-and-a-half year contract in November 2002.
He returned to Blackpool in February 2005 with a contract to June 2006.
