Tomakazu made his debut at Kashiwa Reysol in March 1996.
He played in the 2000 Olympic games and had been a regular on the right side of midfield until the team switched under Phillippe Troussier to a 3-5-2 system.
He lost his starting place to Yasuhiro Hato but remained a good defensive option. He is a strong tackler but does not get forward enough in the system the coach preferred.
