A talented and pacy wide right-sided midfield player, Tijani began his senior career in Nigerian domestic football with Niger Tornadoes, but has played virtually all his football in the Netherlands. After spells with VVV Venlo and Roda JC he joined Ajax in 1996 where he spent the best part of the next three seasons as a regular first teamer. However he has dropped out of the picture in the last couple of years, spending time on loan in Turkey with Genclerbirligi and most recently with Vitesse Arnhem. Tijani was a member of the Super Eagles team that won the Olympic gold medal in 1996 and was a key figure in the campaign to qualify for the 2002 World Cup finals, scoring two goals in the final game against Ghana.
