Spent four excellent seasons at Manchester United, post Cantona, a superb technician 'in the hole', his equaliser in the Nou Camp in the 1999 Champions League Final has given him a place in United history.
36 year-old Teddy was England's senior outfield player in the 2002 World Cup finals.
He made his international debut in 1993 against Poland in Chorzow, and has played at Euro 96 and France 98.
He has always relied on skill, intelligence and awareness, so he does not have to concern himself with the lack of pace in his advancing years.
Teddy made his name alongside Tony Cascarino at Millwall to earn a £2million transfer to Nottingham Forest in 1991.
He returned to London a year later with Tottenham Hotspur for £2.1million then went on to enjoy his greatest success following his £3.5million switch to Manchester United in 1997.
At Old Trafford, he won three Premiership titles as well as the FA Cup and European Champions League.
He returned to Spurs in 2001 to team up with his former England coach Glenn Hoddle.
A key man in Sven-Goran Eriksson's plans for Japan and South Korea, being especially potent when coming off the subs' bench.
This was significant when he converted the vital equaliser in the qualifier against Greece at Old Trafford with his first touch.
Teddy joined West Ham United in July 2004 with a one-year contract that was extended to June 2006 in June 2005.
This was further extended to June 2007 in March 2006.
Teddy joined Colchester United in July 2007 with a one-year contract.
