Takayuki Suzuki

Date of birth05 June 1976
NationalityJapanese
PositionForward

Suzuki is unusual in that he is the only Japanese player to have played in Brazil. He has spent his early career at Kashima Antlers making his first team debut in October 1996. He moved to Rio De Janerio FC in Brazil, before returning to the Antlers. He then moved to JEF United and then went back to Brazil to play for CFZ do Rio before returning to the Antlers where he plays currently.

He has only recently become a member of the international set up recently, joining club mate Atsushi Yanagisawa as the first choice striker. His performances at the Confederations Cup may have sealed his position, if the team play with two strikers but he faces stiff competition from Akinori Nishizawa for the starting spot. He is fast, aggressive and holds the ball well but does not score enough of the chances that come his way.

Suzuki scored Japan's first goal in the 2002 World Cup finals in the 2-2 draw with Belgium in Saitama.
