Unable to break into Leicester's Premiership side Stuart joined Cambridge United in December 2000 and made his debut from the subs' bench at Walsall shortly afterwards. He gave a fine performance on Boxing Day against Wycombe Wanderers when he showed some fine skills and was named 'Man of the Match'. A right back or right-sided or midfield player he featured in a handful more games but fell out of favour following a change in management and was released in the summer of 2001.
