Although Stuart failed to repeat his fine form of the previous campaign in 2000-01 he still managed to retain his place in the Queens Park Rangers line-up for most of the season. A busy midfield player he seemed to lose his touch in front of goal and he eventually lost his place following a change in management and the arrival of Leon Knight on loan. Stuart went out on loan to Rushden in the new season having been placed on the QPR transfer list in February 2002.
Stuart signed a new monthly contract at Rushden & Diamonds in July 2004 before he joined Torquay United in a deal that was extended to December 2004. However, he joined Leyton Orient in October 2004 in a three-month deal before moving on to Cambridge United on non-contract terms.
