Tomlinson signed a two-year professional contract with Crewe Alexandra in July 2003.
It was extended to June 2008 in March 2006 then to June 2009 in May 2008.
Tomlinson joined Port Vale in July 2010 with a one-year contract that was extended to June 2012 in September 2010.
He joined Burton Albion in September 2012 with a four-month contract that was extended by a further month in January 2013 and to June 2014 in February 2013.
Tomlinson announced his retirement in July 2013 due to a knee injury.
