This tall central defender is strong both in the air and on the ground and Scunthorpe were delighted to sign him on a permanent basis last September after an impressive month on loan. However a series of niggling injuries then restricted him to just one start in three months and on his return he had the misfortune to concede a late own goal to give Chesterfield a victory.
Stuart then suffered further injury woes when he tore a calf muscle at Cardiff in February and this kept him out of action for a further six weeks. It became the subsequent cause of his retirement from senior football in September 2002.
