Roberts was just beginning to establish himself in the Wrexham team when he had the misfortune to suffer a broken leg in the Robins' 4-3 win at Oxford United in October 2000.
It was not until February that he was able to resume training and he eventually returned to action with the reserves towards the end of the season.
He is an assured central defender capable of playing his way out of trouble.
He won two further caps for Wales at Under-21 level appearing against Belarus and Norway in August 2000.
Roberts, who is the younger brother of fellow Doncaster Rovers player Neil Roberts, had his Rovers contract extended to June 2008 in April 2006.
He joined Walsall in July 2008 with a two-year contract but retired in October 2009 due to a back injury.
