McAnespie joined Cambridge United in the 2000 close season and was a regular in the line-up until the end of November but then lost his place and rarely featured in the second half of the campaign. He appeared mainly for the U's at right back but can also play in midfield. He is a positive player who likes to push forward down the flank and can deliver accurate free kicks.
