Steve Howey
| Date of birth | 26 October 1971 |
| Place of birth | Sunderland |
| Nationality | English |
| Weight | 83 kg |
| Height | 1.88 m |
| Position | Defender/Centre back |
Howey was with Newcastle from the age of 14 and, up until the transfer to Manchester City in 2000, had been the current longest serving player. A tremendous reader of the game and comfortable on the ball.
Howey began his early career as a striker before showing the form that was to bring him 4 England caps as a central defender. Appearing just 242 times in a Newcastle shirt spanning almost 10 years is testament to a promising career often interrupted by serious long term injury and frustrating periods of rehabilitation. Howey is the younger brother of Lee Howey who played at Northampton Town, also as a central defender.
Howey was made available for transfer by Leicester City in January 2004 prior to joining Bolton Wanderers in a short-term deal. He joined Hartlepool United in March 2005 with a contract to the end of the season.
