Having risen to the Football League ranks with Wycombe Wanderers, Steve continued his meteoric rise with his move to Newcastle. He lasted only four months and one sub appearance on Tyneside but went on to enjoy a long career.
After being a regular choice under Martin O'Neill, Steve found himself in competition with Callum Davidson for the left-wing-back berth under Peter Taylor and mostly lost out to his rival. He tried hard to impress when coming on from the subs' bench and continued to look the most deadly crosser of a ball in the Foxes' squad but was still unable to win a regular place in the starting line-up.
After rejoining Martin O'Neill at Celtic, Steve returned to Leicester City in January 2004 with a contract to the end of the 2003-04 season.
