2000-01 saw the Steve Flack of old as he re-established himself as the first-choice target man for Exeter City. Although he sustained medial ligament damage against Scunthorpe United in November, Steve came firing back on all cylinders just six weeks later. He finished the season as the Grecians' leading scorer and among the highlights of a great campaign were a superb individual effort in the home game with Southend United and a spell in March when he scored in five consecutive matches to equal a club record.
Steve asked to go on the transfer list in February 2002 but twelve months later his Grecians contract was extended up to June 2005.
