After waiting exactly a year for a goal, Steve marked his 50th appearance for Preston North End with the winner against Portsmouth in September but then suffered a double fracture of the right leg against Tranmere Rovers towards the end of October after netting what once again proved to be the deciding goal.
At his best, he is a sharp and incisive goalscorer with excellent ball control and powerful shooting from a short backlift.
He failed to feature in the 2001-02 season and was released by the club at the end of the season.
Steve's contract at Oxford United was extended to June 2007 in May 2005.
