Since making his international debut in November 1995, Stern has become Trinidad & Tobago's record goalscorer and was approaching 100 caps as the World Cup finals drew near in 2006.
Stern joined Coventry City in September 2004 with a contract to June 2007.
He joined Sunderland in January 2007 with a contract to June 2009.
Stern joined Southampton in August 2007 in an exchange deal involving Kenwyne Jones.
He joined Crystal Palace in July 2009 with a one-year contract.
