Arguably Arsenal's most exciting youth product of the nineties, the left-sided midfielder struggled to find a way past the Gunners' foreign imports.

Stephen has represented England at youth, schoolboy and Under-21 levels.

A left-sided midfielder capable of striking a football ever so sweetly - as witnessed by a stunning FA Cup free-kick at Watford - Stephen appeared only fitfully in the Everton midfield in 2000-01.

He was selected in Walter Smith's first starting line-up of the season and stayed there for six games without ever showing the authority or style he was clearly capable of.

Another seven match run in the first team ended with a debilitating dose of 'flu and he struggled to force his way back into the reckoning.

Clearly craving a return to his native London, he hoped for a switch to West Ham United - until Harry Redknapp's departure dashed those hopes.

Stephen joined Coventry City in July 2004 with a one-year contract that was extended to June 2008 in June 2005.
