PositionGoalkeeper

A veteran keeper who was first choice for Russia before the rise of the young pretenders.

He began his long club career at Spartak Moscow in 1984 and spent ten seasons at the club.

At international level, he made his debut just prior to the 1992 European Championship Finals and made the Russian squad.

He was unfortunate to be in the same team as Russian great Rinat Dassayev so his appearances were very limited.

He made the 1994 World Cup Final squad and the 1996 European Championship Finals squad but lost his place as younger goalkeepers emerged.

At club level, he moved to Germany to play for Dresdner in 1994 and after a brief spell back at Spartak Moscow moved to FC Tirol Innsbruck in Austria in 1995.

He spent two years in the international wilderness and did not play in qualification before beating Sergei Ovchinnikov to be third choice.
