A Trojan in defence, Swiss international Stephane was captured for a bargain £3.5 million from Blackburn Rovers.
The Henchoz-Hyppia partnership became Liverpool's strongest central defensive pairing since the days of Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson.
Towards the end of his Liverpool career, he suffered a string of injuries and moved on to Celtic in January 2005.
Stephane returned to Blackburn Rovers in September 2006 with a one-year contract that was extended to June 2008 in February 2007.
