When he made his debut in a friendlly internatiuonal against Albania on 16 November 2022 aged 16 years and 247 days, Simone Pafundi became Italy's youngest player in over 100 years.
He was believed to be the Azzurri's youngest player since record holder Pietro Antonio Gavinelli, who was thought to be 16 years and 97 days when he played against France on 9 April 1911.
