Tracey began 2000-01 in his 13th season at Bramall Lane with no serious challenger for the number one spot between the posts and he had probably his best campaign to date for Sheffield United. He looked sure with crosses into the box, his shot stopping was as good as ever and there were very few unforced errors. After signing a new two-year deal he passed his 300th league and cup appearance for the Blades and looked like being an ever-present before a groin injury brought his run of 91 consecutive first-team games to an end.
