Ford made 17 Under-19 and 10 appearances for the reserves for Charlton Athletic during the 2000-01 season but was not offered a new contract and was snapped up by Grimsby Town.
Ford briefly joined Bristol Rovers in August 2004 on non-contract terms.
He joined Chesterfield in July 2010 with a two-year contract.
