This experienced centre back was signed by Rochdale in the summer of 2000 to bring some much-needed organisational skills to the defence, but was injured during the pre-season and managed only one game before Christmas. He was then recalled to face Shrewsbury in February, but unfortunately for Simon, Dale slumped to their worst-ever home defeat. At his best he is a commanding defender who is also very useful when coming up to join the attack for set pieces.
